# Owl AI (withowl.ai)

## Agent Sessions

Install `@owlai/agent-sdk` (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@owlai/agent-sdk) in the process that runs the customer-facing agent (not the browser). Owl stores each conversation as an agent session: intents, tool calls, outcomes, token use, latency.

The dashboard covers:
- Traces and failure patterns
- Evals (including unexpected tools, retrieval hit, time-to-first-token)
- Experiments and shadow clones
- Monitoring: error rate, latency p99, session count, needs-attention
- A playground for inspecting spans

Owl never executes the customer agent. Prompts stay in the customer repo. Owl records version/hash/snapshot per run. It is not a prompt CMS.

Shadow clones: after a production turn, the SDK asks whether to clone it. Owl returns a variant that may swap model, prompt snapshot, tools, RAG, or voice. The customer SDK must apply those fields. If a dimension is present and not applied, the SDK throws rather than labeling a no-op as an experiment.

## Product sessions (UI, API, MCP)

`@owlai/sdk` (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@owlai/sdk) captures product sessions. Owl also treats API traffic and MCP agent traffic as first-class sessions. Hotjar and FullStory reconstruct a screen. They cannot see API or MCP. Owl analyzes every session, ranks work by impact, hands a fix to an engineer or coding agent, and measures whether activation, retention, churn, or revenue moved.

## Honest comparisons

- vs LangSmith / Braintrust: those are agent observability and evals for agents you instrument. Owl does that for agents you already run, without hosting them, and also captures how humans and inbound agents use the product through UI, API, and MCP.
- vs Hotjar / FullStory: those are recording tools. Owl runs the loop and sees API/MCP.
- vs "just ask Claude about my analytics": that is Q&A on incomplete data. Owl produces the data continuously.
